Video: Conversations Between Transgender Black Women

Transformations produced a video series focused on “Conversations Between Trans Women of Color” in 2019. Our first episode was featured on The Advocate for National Trans Day of Remembrance, along with an article about the state of trans women of color and community advocacy written by Merrique Jenson (Program Director, Transformations). tIn this first episode, “Conversations Between Black Trans Women,” video participants (Nyla Foster (National Director, Trans Women of Color Collective) Fynelle Fristoe (Lead Advisor, Transformations Young Women’s Group,) Gia Bleu, and ballroom icons, Essence Mazzaritie and Lila Star Escada (Overall Mother of the House of Escada) move beyond the violence and trauma, but also showcases sisterhood, beauty, personal strength and resiliency. In the closing words of this episode from Lila, self-love is vital: “You can not let people’s opinions determine what prize you want for yourself. Trust what you see in the mirror. That’s what matters.”

If you self-identify as a (MTF) transgender young woman, ages 16-24 years old, please join us for our monthly transgender Young Women’s Empowerment Group. 3rd Wednesdays of the month (6-9pm)
